Fourth Year of WWAMI

The Idaho Track offers electives and all fourth-year requirements with the exception of the Capstone Course. Because the Idaho Track is the only site that offers Emergency Medicine and Chronic Care, non Idaho Track students must return to Seattle for those clerkships. The Capstone Course occurs at the end of the year and focuses on refresher topics and pre-residency skills. Idaho Track students receive travel support to return to Seattle for the Capstone Course.

Students are required to take and pass both components of Step 2 of the USMLE by January. Step 2 assesses whether they can apply medical knowledge, skills and understanding of clinical science essential for provision of patient care under supervision. Students identify careers and apply to graduate medical education programs in the fourth year through the UWSOM ERAS program. Match results for post-graduate placement occur in March nationwide. Idaho Track students receive career counseling and residency application, selection and Match support through the Idaho WWAMI Clinical Dean's Office. Students graduating receive their M.D. at the Hooding Ceremony in Seattle in the beginning of June. Most graduate medical education residency programs begin the last week of June.
