Important Information and Tips

Planning We can assist with risk planning for activities, field trips, conferences and competitions and advise you about required insurance and preventing and mitigating losses.
Driver Qualification and Vehicle Usage If you regularly drive a UI owned vehicle, you must:

•  Attend a 4 hr driving course

•  Have a good driving record

•  Sign the Vehicle Use Agreement

TIP:  "Insurance follows the vehicle."  Your personally owned vehicle is not covered by UI insurance.  Qualifying as a driver may save you time and money.

TIP:  Make sure the UI owned vehicle has a current claims kit in the glove box.  Get instructions on how to use it from Risk Management.

Contracts Signature authority is given only to Senior Administrators and Financial Vice President.  Contracts that have indemnity or insurance requirements must be review by Risk Management prior to Financial VP's signature.  Indemnity language:  "hold harmless;" "accepts responsibility for loss;" "any and all losses," ETC.

TIP:  Watch out even for simple rental contracts for facilities and equipment.  Are you borrowing equipment from a non-University source?  Call us.

Security For security emergencies, dial 9-911.  Then contact your supervisor.  For non-emergencies, contact your supervisor.  Your supervisor should report to Risk Management.

TIP:  Questions or problems?  Does a situation seem "off" to you?  I probably is.  Call and talk.  Resources include Nancy Spink, and Lt Paul Kwaitkowski (5-7072) of the Moscow Police Campus substation.

Waivers (Field Trips) We've developed a template for Waivers of Liability for field trips and research trips.  Call us.

Training Courses are offered for Risk Assessment, Vehicle Usage, Violence in the Workplace, and University Insurance.  Quick information is at our website.  Call us with questions.
Certificates If a non-UI entity is going to need a Certificate from us, we need at least one week's lead time.  Certificates can only be issued by the State of Idaho.  Erin Hodgin-Tomlin orders these and has a worksheet you need to complete.  See our website and select "Certificates".

Inland Marine, Camp & Travel These are special lines of coverage that are useful for mobile equipment, campers' participant and overseas travel.
Claim Reporting Report as soon as possible.  Be a good observer, and help us with details about who, where, when, what & how.
