USAC Faculty/Staff International Development Awards (FIDA)

The University of Idaho (UI) and the University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) invite faculty and professional staff who would like to spend a month overseas learning a new language and/or culture and who want to promote internationalization at the UI to apply for a Faculty/Staff International Development Award (FIDA).

FIDA recipients attend a USAC summer program as students, studying the local language and/or taking regional classes, enhancing their understanding of different cultures with the help of a grant covering tuition and a stipend (approximately $1250) toward the cost of housing and airfare.  Countries available include Chile, China, Costa Rica, Czech Republic,  France (June only), Germany, Ghana, Italy, Mexico, or Spain.

Eligibility:  Applicants must be full-time assistant, associate, or full professors, or professional staff.  Preference is given to applicants with limited experience living abroad.  Applicants must be returning on contract to the University of Idaho the following academic year.

Award Details:  The number of awards given annually varies.  Historically, 2-4 awards have been given.  Award covers tuition for selected one-month summer USAC program plus a stipend (approximately $1250) intended to cover airfare and a portion, if not all, of the housing costs (additional expenses are the responsibility of the recipient).

Deadlines:  December 1st for the following summer.

CIEE International Faculty Development Seminars

CIEE faculty seminars are more than guided tours.  They are intensive educational experiences designed to explore fascinations, challenge preconceptions, and open eyes to global issues shaping the world today.  Each program features lectures, site visits, and discussions with overseas colleagues.  Participants return to campus poised to incorporate an international dimension into administration, course design, research, and teaching.  96% of attendees polled indicated that the seminar had a significant impact on his/her professional life.

Choose from unique and challenging seminar themes offered in an array of countries that span the globe.  Analyze the political and socio-economic transformation of Southern China, unravel the mystery of India, or encounter contemporary Arab culture and society in Jordan.
