Registering for Classes
All international
students are required to register for a full course
of study: One of the first questions international students often ask is how they register for classes. This is important, as you must follow several steps before you will be allowed to register. First, you might wish to read about the academic department to which you have applied in the UI Course Catalog. This will give you general information about the department, brief course listings, the academic calendar, and academic/university policies. Second, to find which courses will be offered each semester, you should consult the Time Schedule for Courses. The Time Schedule is organized by subject area (Anthropology or Chemical Engineering, for example). Once you click on a subject, the Time Schedule will tell you what courses are available that semester in that subject. It will also tell you what time and days of the week the course is offered (to avoid schedule conflicts), the building and room number of the class, and who is the instructor. The Time Schedule will also tell you how many students may register overall for the course, and how many have already registered for the course (so you know if the course is already full). If the course you need is full, you may register to be on the "Wait List". This way, if other students drop the course you may eventually be able to get in. After you have been accepted, when you try to register you will find that you have a "registration/advisor's hold" on your student account. To release this hold, you must contact your academic advisor. Their contact information should be sent to you with your UI acceptance paperwork. Once you are able to contact your advisor, you will be given advice about what classes to take, etc., likely over e-mail. Once your advisor is satisfied you have been properly advised, he or she will remove the hold from your account so that you may register. Exchange Students: If you try to register and find that you have a hold limiting your registration to only 7 credits, please contact the UI Study Abroad Office at (208) 885-4075 or abroad@uidaho.edu. This is a different kind of hold and needs to be removed by the Study Abroad Office. Once all holds are released you may register for your classes. You may complete this process online at http://www.uidaho.edu/registration/. Follow the directions to logon. It is important to pre-register online in advance if you want to be assured of getting into the classes you have chosen. You can wait to register until you are on campus, but you might find it difficult to speak to your advisor and register for the courses you want before classes begin, and many courses may already be full. For more information, the UI has an Advising and Registration guide to help. Fees for classes are due at Student Accounts in the Student Union
Building no later than the Friday before classes begin, by 5:00 pm. YOUR REGISTRATION IS NOT COMPLETE UNTIL YOU PAY YOUR FEES OR MAKE PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS
