Sayantani Dasgupta, a masters student in creative writing, was
invited by the Idaho State Commission for Libraries to speak in
Nezperce, Idaho on the East Indian book , Climbing the Mango
Trees by Mudhar Jaffrey. Local residents got to hear her
impressions of the book and learn about her childhood growing up in
that region. Listeners also got to taste several dishes

The Fall 2007 semester has come and gone much like others before it.
But for many students living in the Residence Halls this year, they
may have noticed something a little different. As part of the
Sustainability Initiatives implemented by the University of Idaho
this year, a team was assembled to find solutions to saving useable
household goods rather than having them thrown out as in years past.
International students on the Campus Move Out Team continued to work
hard after their finals were over to make sure that usable items
were not part of the waste stream as students left campus. Fafa
Asiseh, Esther Ndumi Ngumbi and Sheela Chand worked with other
students & staff to make sure that students had easy access to
donation stations placed near residences on campus. They collected
several truckloads of usable items that may have otherwise been
thrown away. They were happy with the results of the program, and
look forward to expanding it this spring.
