What is a UI Direct
Program?
A UI Direct program means that the
University of Idaho has an agreement
directly with a university or a program
abroad rather than going through a third
party provider. UI Direct programs are usually
the most inexpensive options for students.
Who should
study on a UI
Direct Program?
UI Direct programs are
recommended for students who are independent
and want to immerse themselves into the
community of the host country. Most
universities will offer an orientation upon
arrival so that students can get acquainted
with the university system, campus, and
city, but it is usually up to the student
to navigate the university system, register for
classes, etc.
There are a few UI Direct Programs who have
full-time Resident Directors. Resident
Directors are there to provide in-depth
orientations and on-site support. They
usually get students registered for their
classes, set-up their housing, take them on
excursions, and provide other help as needed
by students. UI Direct programs with
Resident Directors are: PUCE in
Ecuador, SANN Research Institute in India
and Nepal, and KCP Language Institute in
Japan.
