Location:

Quito, Ecuador
Eligibility:                             2.5 GPA, to take courses with Ecuadorian students: at least 6 semesters or the equivalent of college-level Spanish is required
Language of Instruction: Spanish/English
 
Academic Program:
  • The Ecuadorian Experience - Global Justice Service-Learning course I & II:
    This 3-credit service-learning course is a required component of the program. In the fall, the course focuses on the issues of natural resources, agriculture, science, hunger and migration within Latin America and Ecuador. In the spring, the course will focus on race relations, small businesses and wealth imbalances.
     
  • Spanish Language and Ecuadorian Culture Program:
    Six levels of the Spanish language and culture program are offered (9 credits each). Students will take two sessions in one semester.
     
  • Regular university courses with Ecuadorian students in the following areas:
    Architecture • Design • Business Administration • Accounting • Preschool Education • Elementary Education • Secondary Education • Biological Sciences • Anthropology •  Geography • Ecology and Tourism • History • Economics • Nursing • Medical Technology • Theology • Philosophy • Religious Sciences • Civil Engineering • Systems Engineering • Jurisprudence • Linguistics and Languages • Psychology • Social Work
     
  • Open Courses: can be taken with the Spanish Language Program (Level IV and above only) or Regular university courses.  Courses available in the following areas:
    Studies of the Americas • Asian History • Social and Cultural History • Culture and Society • Social Development • Gender and Development • Ecology and Environmental Management • Politics, International Relations and Conflict Resolution

Program fee: (subject to change)

  Covers:  tuition, fees, room, meals, UI resident director services, and week-long experiential -learning excursion.
 
One Semester: $8,200
  Academic Year: $15,800
  • The official program ends at the semester end date each semester.  Those students wishing to stay with their host families after this date will be responsible for their room & meal charges.  Students staying for the academic year will only be responsible for these charges after the spring program end date.
     
  • $290 per credit for Ecuadorian Experience course credits. (credits optional)
     
  • In addition to the program fee, students will pay a $150 non-refundable application fee when they apply.
