About ISA
Located in Austin, Texas, ISA has been providing study abroad programs
for U.S. students for more than 14 years. International Studies
Abroad is a study abroad provider with 13 destination countries that
encompass 26 distinct and exciting cities. ISA has been providing
quality study abroad programs for U.S. college students since 1987. Our
study abroad program sites include a variety of cities in Argentina,
Belgium, Chile, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, England,
France, Italy, México, Morocco, Perú and Spain. Working closely
with the host universities abroad, ISA provides students with a study
abroad experience that is academically challenging and culturally
rewarding.
There are two types of ISA programs. Traditional ISA programs
which offer more on-site support for students at any language level, and
ISA Direct programs which offer more options for advanced- or
superior-level Spanish-speakers to study in Spain. ISA Direct
programs are for independent students.

ISA ELAP Programs
Experiential Learning Abroad Programs (ELAP) is a division of
ISA that arranges and prepares students for volunteer and
occasional internship placements. ELAP is an enriching
experience for proficient Spanish speakers who are seeking to
contribute to an organization's responsibilities and mission
while simultaneously learning about themselves in an unfamiliar,
and at times, challenging environment. Experiential learning
adds another dimension to the study abroad experience through
daily interactions, resulting in a greater understanding of the
language, culture, and community of the host country.

Courses and Credit
For many of ISA’s foreign language sites, students
may either enroll in an intensive language and culture
program, or if they have advanced language skills,
enroll in select regular university courses.
Participants who wish to study in Santander (Spain),
Guanajuato (Mexico), and Valparaiso (Chile) enroll in
regular classes (e.g., history, political science)
taught entirely in Spanish. Students at these sites
should have high intermediate to advanced level Spanish
language skills.
For those who want to study only the Spanish language
at an advanced level, the ISA Santiago, Dominican
Republic program is ideal.
Participants who wish to study in Granada, Madrid,
Salamanca, Barcelona, and Sevilla (Spain), San Jose
(Costa Rica), Buenos Aires (Argentina), and Paris
(France) have two options: either enroll in an intensive
language program, or take regular courses taught
entirely in the host country language. However, students
who choose the latter option should have high
intermediate to advanced language skills.
For those who want a multi-country experience, ISA
now offers a multi-country program that goes to Spain,
Argentina, and Mexico. Students study the language, the
Hispanic culture, and the business, literature, and/or
history of each country.
ISA provides a resident director for each of its
Spanish or French sites. The resident director organizes
on-site orientations and program excursions, helps you
find appropriate accommodations, answers questions, and
is there to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
Participants who wish to study in Valencia (Spain)
enroll in a variety of technical courses taught in
English; a Spanish course will be offered for those who
would like to incorporate language study as well.
ISA also has a direct enrollment option for the
University of Reading in England.
Students who choose this option enroll as regular
university students for a semester or year. Courses at
these universities are taught in English. These sites do
not have resident directors; however, a program
coordinator is designated by the host institution to
provide student support services. Students should be
aware that program coordinators are usually faculty or
staff who deal with a wide variety of programs (not just
ISA), and typically cannot provide the same level of
service that a student would receive at sites with
resident directors. All ISA courses are graded A-F.

On-Site Support, Room &
Meals
The original ISA programs have Resident Directors on
site and housing and meals are arranged for students at
many different language levels. ISA Direct
programs do not have Resident Directors on site and
housing is set-up for the first month of the program.
After that time, ISA Direct students can choose to find their own housing or
stay for the remainder of their time with the housing arranged through
ISA.
Host families are available at all sites except the University
of Reading which houses students in residence halls.
Most sites also offer other housing options. Check
the program-specific information on the
ISA website
for details. [back to top]
