About Thailand

Thailand is strategically located in the heart of Southeast Asia and is an important center of the region. Thailand has a population of 65 million people, 95% of whom are Buddhist.  Although industrialization and modernization have brought a competitive and restless lifestyle to Bangkok, one can still find beautiful old temples and palaces among the skyscrapers. The saying that Thailand is the "land of smiles" is still true, especially in the rural areas where traditional agrarian lifestyles survive. While eastern and southern Thailand are famous for its seaside resorts, the north and west are well known for its peaceful mountains and hill-tribe treks. Thailand is a tourist gateway and the friendliness of Thai people makes travel in Thailand and the surrounding region easy.

Thai Educational System

The established public and private universities and colleges of higher education are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of University Affairs in both the government and private sectors offer excellent programs especially in the fields of Medicine, the Arts, Humanities, and Information Technology, although many students prefer to pursue studies of law and business in Western faculties abroad or in those which have created local facilities in Thailand. During the first years of the 21st century, the number of universities increased dramatically on a controversial move by the Thaksin government to rename many public institutes as universities.
