About India

India is an incredible place. It is an ancient country with one of the oldest civilizations in the world. It is the land of the Vedas, Upnishads, and Puranas, ancient books of wisdom, and of Ayurveda, the alternative healing practice. Yoga also has its roots in India, and meditation, which is practiced widely, is considered a panacea for all stress-related problems. The sight of the Taj Mahal, one of the wonders of the world, mesmerizes and enthralls visitors. India’s old forts, royal palaces, Hindu shrines, and temples of architectural splendor fill the minds of visitors with unforgettable and breathtaking images. In addition, its unique festivals, glorious gardens, and wildlife sanctuaries offer other opportunities for visitors to discover India’s treasures. With its rich spiritual and cultural traditions, a journey into India is an adventure not to be forgotten. The SANN International College is located in Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan. This is the land of the Rajput warriors and Maharajas. The region boasts sand dunes, wooded hills, amazing lakes, splendid palaces, rugged forts, men and women in colorful turbans and skirts, bursting towns and quiet villages, camels, elephants, and even tigers. The city is divided into nine districts consisting of Dhundhar, Brij Mewar, Hadoti, Mewar, Vagad, Godwar, Desert, Merwara, and Shekhawati. Jaipur, popularly known as the “Pink City,” lies in the northwest of India and is only about 150 miles from New Delhi. Its population of 1.8 million is comprised largely of Hindus and a small percentage of Muslims and Christians. Buddhism was born in India, but today only a small percentage of people are Buddhist. India has a thriving film industry, with every major city boasting several cinemas. Musicals and dance performances are also popular. Favorite sports include cricket, soccer, and field hockey. Although India has one of the largest industrialized economies in the world, two-thirds of the working population is employed in agriculture. India is a leading producer of tea, nuts, rice, tobacco, wheat, cotton, and sugarcane. Overpopulation and poverty are among India’s chief economic concerns. Government programs are available on family planning, health, and nutrition.

Indian Educational System

Education is free and compulsory for eight years, but in rural areas facilities are often inadequate and many children do not attend. Government programs aimed at improving the situation in public schools are often short on funds, leading many families to seek private education. India has more than 200 universities, over 8,000 colleges, and at least 15 institutions devoted to the arts and/or sciences.
