About French Territories

French Guiana is the only French Territory located on the South American mainland.  Situated on the northern coast, its main city is Cayenne with a population of 41,000. The two UAG campuses are in Cayenne and Kourou.

The archipelago of Guadeloupe includes the islands of St Barthélémy, St. Martin, les Saintes, la Désirade, Marie-Galante, and Guadeloupe itself. The main city of Basse-Terre, with a population of 12,410, is located on Guadeloupe. The two AUG campuses are located in Pointe-à-Pitre (Grande-Terre) and St. Claude (Basse-Terre).

Martinique is the second largest island of the French West Indies. It is home to the active volcano Mount Pelée, which erupted in 1902. The main city, with a population of 100,000, is Fort-de-France. The campus is in the town of Schoelcher.

Réunion is a French overseas territory located in the midst of the Indian Ocean, east of the island of Madagascar. From the 17th to the 19th centuries, French immigration supplemented by influxes of Africans, Chinese, Malays, and Malabar Indians gave the island its ethnic mix. The university is located within walking distance of the commercial center and about three miles from the old town center in St. Denis.
