Advising for Study Abroad

It is important that you get the proper study abroad advising before you decide on and apply for a program.  Please follow the steps below to ensure you receive all necessary information.

  1. Come to a First-Time Advising Session.
    •  Or you can download the First-Time Advising Manual and read through it prior to meeting with a study abroad advisor.
     

  2. Read the Important Information section of this website for study abroad "how to" directions and important UI Study Abroad policies.
     

  3. Meet with a Study Abroad Advisor Monday through Friday:
    •  10:00 am - 12:30 pm - by appointment
      12:30 pm - 4:30 pm - walk-ins or appointments welcome
     

  4. Transformative Learning Maps (TLMs) will help you determine when, according to your major/minor you can take part in experiential learning such as Study Abroad during your studies at UI. 
     

  5. Meet with your Academic Advisor to determine if the program(s) you are thinking about are right for you academically.
     

  6. Meet with a Financial Aid Advisor if you plan to use financial aid while studying abroad.
