Advising for Study Abroad

It is important that you get the proper study abroad advising before you decide on and apply for a program.  Please follow the steps below to ensure you receive all necessary information.

  1. Come to a First-Time Advising Session.  Find the schedule here.
    •  Or you can download the First-Time Advising Manual and read through it prior to meeting with a study abroad advisor

  2. Read the Important Information section of this website for study abroad "how to" directions and important UI Study Abroad policies.

  3. Meet with a Study Abroad Advisor.
    •  We are available for advising from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
    •  Stop by--you don't need an appointment.

  4. In the Major/Minor Advising Guides you'll find how courses from UI study abroad partners have transferred back to the UI.  Keep in mind, all credits from UI Study Abroad partners are accepted at the UI.  The Major/Minor Advising Guides only list courses that students have taken at partner institutions in the past.

  5. Meet with your Academic Advisor to determine if the program(s) you are looking at are right for you academically.

  6. Meet with a Financial Aid Advisor if you plan to use financial aid while studying abroad.
