Health Insurance The University of Idaho requires that all international students be covered by health insurance. ALCP students are automatically covered by the UI Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). If students would prefer an alternative health insurance, it must meet the University of Idaho's minimum requirements. All ALCP students must show proof of health insurance on the first day of each session. If a student does not show proof of health insurance they will be charged for SHIP insurance. Our state law requires that health insurance is required for every student in an Idaho school and the Idaho State Board of Education approved the University of Idaho’s health insurance minimum requirements. You must purchase the UI Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) or a health insurance plan that meets every one of the University of Idaho minimum health insurance requirements for every session of ALCP. The cost of SHIP is subject to change each year and students are billed according to which session they begin ALCP. See examples below for how student accounts are charged for SHIP insurance. A) Students who begin ALCP during the Fall 1 or Spring 1 will pay approximately $487.00 for health insurance during their first session and $180.00 during their second session (Fall II or Spring II session). Charges will continue this way for each continuing session and students will not have to pay for insurance for summer session. B) Students who begin ALCP during the Fall II session will be charged $487 and then will be charged for continuing sessions like in example A. C) Students who begin ALCP during Spring II session will be charged $487 and will not be charged for the summer session. All continuing sessions after summer will be charged the same as in example A. D) Students who begin in the Summer session will be charged $463 and then will be charged for continuing sessions like in example A.
