Thirty Years of Public Water Research

The Idaho Water Resources Research Institute was established in 1963 by the University of Idaho Board of Regents. The following year, the Office of Water Resources Technology was established at the federal level in the Department of Interior that provided for a Water Resources Research Institute at every land grant university in the United States, plus three United States territories and the District of Columbia. Currently the institute is authorized under the Water Resources Act of 1984 and is administered by the United States Geological Survey, Department of Interior.

The institute resides on the campus of the University of Idaho with satellite research offices in Boise and Idaho Falls.
