Each participant will be able to attend two workshops
- Concepts of Community Which Promote Unity
(Rev. Lucius Walker Jr.)
What happens when you feel like you just can’t build common ground with those around you? The transformation of vision into reality is one which takes faith, dedication and a practical plan to build bridges. Rev. Walker will use his worldwide experiences to help us develop practical and effective tools and strategies to nourish and inspire us as we face these myriad challenges and meet them one by one. Especially recommended for religious leaders and human rights activists.
- Character Education: From Violence to Virtues
(Linda Kavelin Popov & Dr. Dan Popov)
Only through building a sustainable community of caring and a culture of tolerance and peace, can we hope to transform bullies into leaders, cruelty into compassion and honor our diversity. The Virtues Project is a global grass roots initiative to build a better world by inspiring the practice of virtues in everyday life. In this highly interactive presentation, you will hear success stories and explore tools for tolerance used in schools and communities throughout the world applying the 5 Virtues Strategies. Especially recommended for educators, students, and religious leaders.
- Taking Action: Practical Contributions to Civility
(Dr. Raymond Reyes & Sam Byrd, Owner of Diversity Works Consulting)
Through interactive dialogue and demonstrations of techniques and tools, participants will learn practical techniques for identifying and ending oppression in their communities. The workshop will address economic issues, racial, religious and ethnic divisions, as well as personal challenges. Together participants will seek ways to transform confrontations into conversations and to empower individuals and teams to seek new solutions. Especially recommended for community activists and civic leaders.
- Government and Civic Leaders (Panelists)
Successful strategies for communities and their local governments which champion diversity and create more inclusive communities will be the focus of two panels and small group interactions. Practical skills and programs will be shared in detail by panelists from African American, Asian American, Hispanic, Native American, Muslim communities and others. Stories of success as well as difficulties will provide participants with practical tools and new perspectives to take back to their communities. Especially recommended for public officials and civic leaders.
