FACULTY COUNCIL MINUTES

 

2000-2001 Meeting #1, Tuesday, April 25, 2000

 

Present: Brunsfeld, Chun, Coonts, Finnie, Goble, Goodwin, Guilfoyle (for Stoll), Haggart (w/o vote), Hong, Kraut, McCaffrey, McClure, McKeever, Meier, Nelson, Nielsen, Pitcher (w/o vote), Smelser  Absent: Cole, Foltz, Fritz, Thompson Observers: 2

A quorum being present, Provost Brian Pitcher called the meeting to order at 5:10 p.m. in Room #62 of the Agricultural Sciences Building.

Special Orders.  It was moved and seconded (Goble, Meier) that the rules be suspended and the council move to the immediate election of officers. The motion was adopted by unanimous voice vote.

Nominations
were requested for the office of Chair of Faculty Council. The following council members were nominated:

Professor Kerry E. McKeever

Professor Ronald E. Smelser

 

It was moved and seconded (Chun, Meier) that the nominations be closed. The motion was adopted by unanimous voice vote.

 

Professor Kerry E. McKeever was elected Chair of the 2000-2001 Faculty Council by majority vote on the first ballot.

 

Nominations were requested for the office of Vice Chair of Faculty Council. The following council members were nominated:

Professor Ronald E. Smelser

Professor Mark J. Nielsen

 

It was moved and seconded (Meier, Nelson) that the nominations be closed. The motion was adopted by unanimous voice vote.

 

While the ballots were being counted, the new and old council members introduced themselves.

 

Professor Ronald E. Smelser was elected Vice Chair of the 2000-2001 Faculty Council by majority vote on the first ballot.

 

Provost Brian Pitcher handed the gavel to new Faculty Council Chair Kerry McKeever. She thanked Provost Pitcher, Professor Frincke, Professor Emeritus Haggart, and Administrative Assistant Ann Thompson for their help and assistance this past year. She told the council that, based on the number of issues that we looked at today and other indicators, the coming year would be an important and exciting year for the Faculty Council. Professor McKeever urged the council members to become more familiar with the university and its policies by reading the Faculty-Staff Handbook.

 

Adjournment. There being no further business to come before the council, Professor McKeever adjourned the meeting at 5:25 p.m.

 

The next meeting of the 2000-2001 Faculty Council will be at the call of the Chair.
