Research Experience for Undergraduates Undecided about Pursuing Science (REU2)

 

Summer 2007

 

For Whom?

  • REU2 is a program for freshman and sophomore students considering pursuing a science and/or engineering field of study.

What does REU2 do?

  • Place students with faculty research teams to experience scientific research.

  • Balanced experience that combines mentoring/learning with realistic expectations for research productivity.

  • Idaho EPSCoR provides $4000 per student for salary and $500 to faculty for research expenses. Students are hired at $10/hr.

When?

  • Next research period summer 2007 (May-August).

  • Duration 8-10 weeks.

  • Apply early! Deadline April 15, 2007. Earlier is better.

  • Faculty encouraged to nominate students whom they know are undecided about pursuing science even if the faculty member may not be a mentor this year.

Where?

  • Research may take place in many areas. Mentors are based at the University of Idaho.

Why?

  • Provide students with an early research experience.

  • Recruit and retain students with an aptitude in science and engineering.

Students - How to Apply

 

Undecided about your major? Interested in a career in science and/or engineering? Apply for REU2 to experience research in your field of interest.

 

To be eligible you must:

  • Be a student at the University of Idaho

  • Be a U.S. citizen

  • In current freshman or sophomore standing

What will I do?

During summer 2007 you will become part of a research team's lab and experience a research environment under the direction of faculty mentors. Exact research experiences will vary based on your area of interest. Examples of posters from past experiences can be found here.

How much does it pay?

No one lives for free. Idaho EPSCoR will provide you with $10/hr during your experience.

 

When should I apply?
