WANTED:

Current and Future Entrepreneurs in Science & Engineering Fields

 

Introduction

 

The Entrepreneurial Internship program will immerse university science and engineering students in the entrepreneurial culture of small technology-related start-up companies and small businesses. It seeks to catalyze entrepreneurial innovation and inspire science and engineering students to become entrepreneurs. Interns will be mentored both in the application of their technical skills and in the challenges of being an entrepreneur. Successful applicants must have an interest in entrepreneurship.

 

Internship Details

 

Duration: At least 8 weeks, but no more than 9 weeks during summer 2007 (mid-May 2007 to mid-August 2007). Exact employment dates will be determined by mutual agreement.

 

Compensation: Idaho EPSCoR will provide businesses 75% of employment costs up to $4500.  Businesses must contribute 25% of employment costs.  Students will receive approximately $4,500 gross pay for full-time work during the internship period.

 

Eligibility: Any university student (undergraduate or graduate student) currently enrolled at an Idaho university or four year school who is pursuing an appropriate science or engineering degree may apply.

 

Business Application Instructions

 

Internships are planned for the summer of 2007. Idaho NSF EPSCoR invites letters of application from very small companies (3-25 employees) with a commitment to mentoring students in business and technical skills. Idaho NSF EPSCoR will provide 75% of a student's funding, businesses must contribute 25%. Businesses wishing to host an intern for the summer of 2007 should apply no later than December 20, 2006.

 

To apply for 2007 please provide a brief letter of application addressing the following items:

  • Company: stage of development, entrepreneurial culture, innovations, number of employees, etc.

  • Projects and/or activities into which the intern would be integrated.

  • Mentor(s) and their level of commitment to this entrepreneurial experience.

  • Desired technical training, skills, and interests of an appropriate intern.

  • Other circumstances that would make this internship particularly attractive.

The application target date is December 20, 2006; however, letters will be considered until at least 20 excellent internship opportunities are identified. Should we receive a large number of company applications, selection of eligible companies will be based on the apparent mentor commitment to the internship, quality of expected work activities for the intern, evidence of a positive entrepreneurial culture, and current innovation in the company's respective field.

Please submit a separate packet of information for each company at which you wish to intern. A description of the companies and the intern positions available can be found below.

 

A letter of endorsement from a student's university advisor or mentor is encouraged but not required. Students also are encouraged to communicate with the job-related contacts provided below for job-related information before applying for an internship. Administrative questions should be directed to Idaho EPSCoR.

 

Application Target Date: Apply on or before February 28, 2007.
