Sharon R. Harvey
was born and raised in the country of Haiti before coming to the States at
age 12. Much of her life has been in an international setting. She came to
the University of Idaho nine years ago from Montreal, Quebec, Canada where she
had lived for the past 15 years. She has a Master's degree in Religious
Studies from McGill University, Canada, and another Master's degree in
Philosophy from Washington State University. Her Ph.D. in
Environmental Science at the University of Idaho was completed in 2006. Sharon has written
books on environmental philosophy: Open Theism and Environmental Responsibilities: A Promotion of
Environmental Ethics, VDM Press, 2007, and Heidegger and
Eco-Phenomenology: Gelassenheit as Practice, VDM Press 2009. Her
article, "Environmental Problem-Solving and Heidegger's
Phenomenology: Addressing Our Technical Relation to Nature" was published in
the Environmental Philosophy Journal,
Vol. VI, Issue II, Fall
2009, 59-71. The Cortner article used in
this online course was the springboard for this piece of work. Sharon has
co-taught this course four times on campus, and five times online.
Besides her academic life, Sharon is a wife and mother. She is married to
Carlton, who also teaches online at the University of Idaho. They have been
married for 31 years and have a son, Lyndon and a daughter, Lauren. Sharon
is an online instructor for the UI Psychology & Communication department and
also teaches Environmental Science online for Metropolitan State College of Denver.
Some of Sharon's favorite activities are camping, berry picking and playing the piano. |
