Outstanding Student of
the Year, 2007
Heidi Schmalz Heidi Schmalz received the
Outstanding Environmental Science Student Award for 2005-2006. Heidi
maintained a 4.0 GPA while at the UI. As an undergraduate, she worked
at the UI Herbarium, and was an active member of the Soil Stewards at the
UI. She won the 2006-2007 Annie's Environmental Science Scholarship. During
her junior & senior summers, Heidi worked with the Nature Conservancy on
their Zumwalt Priaire Reserve in northeastern Oregon as an intern. For her
senior thesis she used experience from these summer internships and researched
the characterization of five soils on the Reserve. Congratulations Heidi!
